Mohd Rafi and Madan Mohan

Mohd Rafi and Madan Mohan

Was it magical, that evening? I would say it was…

I was very excited as I readied myself to sit through a concert that was organised to pay tribute to the legend – Madan Mohan. I am a huge fan. I was naturally drawn to most of his music compositions. Ironically, till about a few years back, I wasn’t even aware that I was a fan of Madan Mohan, till a close friend, Bhushan, who works with YashRaj Films, and is a sort of pro where Hindi film songs were concerned, closely observed my likes and pointed it out to me! Sunday, April 26th, 2009

This article is sourced by Mr. P. Narayanan and written by Ms. Shikha Biswas Vohra, the illustrous daughter of the legendary music director Anil Biswas. I think it is important for me to stress the Anil Biswas-Mohd Rafi nexus or rather lack of it. I have recd several calls from Rafi fans after my clarification on Radio Farishta and they are quite pleased with the solving of a long-standing dilemma – Shikha Biswas.

Shrikant Narayan, Shikha Biswas

Shrikant Narayan, Shikha Biswas

Music lovers of Delhi were enthralled by the sheer magic of melody, as they travelled back in time to the golden era of Indian cine music. Responsible for transporting them there was the combination of the effort of Sangeet Smriti, an organization dedicated to old melodies being run in the capital by Shikha Biswas Vohra, and the mellifluous voice of Shrikant Narayan, who held an entire audience spellbound with his renditions of the ‘melodious moods’ of the immortal singer. PADHARO SE

PADHARO SE

This title looks a bit strange on the columns where Rafi Sahab is the focal point of any discussion or debate. Normally we would discuss a singular style of Rafi Sahab’s unfathomable array of ‘adayigi’ or his association with certain music directors, etc etc to quench the thirst of innumerable fans of Rafi Sahab.  Sometimes we would write on the various bhajans, patriotic songs, romantic songs, quawwalis, duets or many other different topics that keep surfacing on the pages of this website at a very high frequency. Articles would also appear on the many other virtues of Rafi Sahab, as a person, as a family man, as a professional, etc. There would be reporting on the various musical shows in his memory arranged at various centres, only to emphasise the extent of his universal presence in the world of music.
