I would like to share this one with our Fan Club. It just amazes me reading so much about him and I am not SATISFIED yet, Never will I be satisfied reading about our Rafi Saab. I am pretty sure that there are more and more stories about him.

I would like to share one which I heard from my late father. I believe that Naushad saab used to visit Rafi’s house often and during conversations would tell Bashira Begum (Rafi Saab’s wife) that ‘She was the most LUCKIEST Woman on the Planet’ and when asked why….Naushad saab’s reply was ‘Aapko tho sub kuch itni Meeti awaz mein milthi hai, Pyar ki baaton bhi and Gusse ki baaton bhi’. Surprised by the title of this article?! No- this is not about songs that Rafi sahib  sang for himself in screen. He had very, very rarely appeared on screen . This is about the songs that , due to the lyrics, seem perfectly fit for Rafi sahib himself. (more…)

Friday, July 31st, 2009

By Mr. Ashok Parekh – I read a nice article on our Rafisaab in today’s Mumbai Gujarati Daily ‘Mumbai Samachar’ and have made an attempt to translate as my tribute to Rafisaab on his death anniversary.

Mohd Rafi

31st July is amidst us. It was on this day, Rafisaab left all of us for heavenly abode. Media has started to pay tributes to him. Few days back a Gujarati daily in Mumbai, “Mumbai Samachar” had published an article in which musician Dilip Dholakia has narrated his association and experiences with Rafisaab. While Dilip Dholakia has independently given in few Hindi films in name of D. Dilip, he worked as assistant with Chitragupta and Lakshmikant Pyarelal. Following is my humble attempt for English translation which might not be error free but will definitely provide us all in general and Gujarati fans in particular a new angle of knowing our beloved Rafisaab: (more…)

Banda Parwar Thaam Lo Jigar
Banke Pyaar Phir Aaya Hoon………
Khidmat Mein Aap Ki Huzoor
Phir Wohi Dil Laaya Hoon………

At the outset, all are appealed to pardon me for starting most of my articles with two or four lines of a song and also ending-up with similar fashion, since I am an inflexible & unrefined Music Lover, I could not able to obstruct myself from doing so. By remembering this one the best title song of Hindi Film Music from PHIR WOHI DIL LAYA HOON in the harmonious voice of Mohammed Rafi, I hereby take permission of all Music Lovers to invite them to the tiny chapter of the light & comic romantic songs of 1960s. Mohammed Rafi – “Mujhe Darde Dil Ka Patha Na Tha Mujhe Aap Kis Liye Mil Gaye, Main Akela Yoon Hee Majhe Main Tha Mujhe Aap Kis Liye Mil Gaye

A very rare and a beautiful duet between Mohammed Rafi Saab and Ronu Mukherjee (daughter of Hemant Kumar) titled “Sara mora gajra chhudaya toonhe, garva kaise lagaya toonhe, O rasiya mana basiya, teekha teekha kajra lagaya toonhe …. Ko jaadu jagaya toonhe” from the film “Do Dil” written by Kaifi Azmi and music scored by Hemant Kumar. This film had Biswajeet & Rajashri in the lead roles. The other great song from this film being a super solo sung by Rafi Saab is titled as “Tera husna rahe mera ishka rahe tho ye subha ho ye sham rahe na rahe” indeed a master-piece composition. The myriad moods and emotions expressed by Rafi Sahab in his songs is not only awe inspiring but also a subject of discussion for music lovers in general and Rafi admirers in particular.

An aspect of his music that has always fascinated me is his duets.  He has sung some of the most beautiful duets in Hindi films.  Among them, some are light hearted,  some soulful and others intensely romantic.  A unique and interesting feature of some of his duets is the late entry of Rafi Sahab into the song.
