Rafi Sahab was indeed incredible. No other singer either past nor present was able to match his genius of range, sweetness of voice and rendering of expression. But to my mind the greatest virtue in his singing was that he could incredibly mould his voice to the actor who is to perform lip sync. I myself was part of this exercise where we make 55 people listen to his songs and gave 5 options of identifying the actors on whom that particular song was picturised. Amazing results were achieved. 88 % people could correctly identified the actor. The songs were of different era and of different periods. Ranging from O Duniya ke rakhwale to Darde Dil Darde Jigar, Dil Jo No kaha saka to Tu is tarah se meri zindagi mein shamil hai, Ishawar allah tere naam to Bar bar Dekho the range goes on. There were some rare songs like Heer from Mera Naam Joke – Sadke heer tujhpe hum fakir sadke to Tum Chali Jayogi . Still people could identify the actors , though they were not able to identify the movie name.

Now what else you call this phenomeon except sheer magic …….

Happy Birthday to the greatest singer of all times Mohd. Rafi.

Even after 30 years of his passing from this world, no one is able to fill the space he has left and for many more years or it would be correct to say that till music is there no one would be able to step into his shoes and sing like him.

Legendary actors like Shammi kapoor , Dev Anand and many others owe a great part of their success to Rafi sahab. Not only he was a great singer but he was a great human being, people respected him from the core of their heart.

I wanted to say more but I don’t have words to describe the stature of this legendary singer.

All I want to say that may the soul of Rafi sahab live in peace forever.
