I have posted the letter requesting Bharat Ratna on 1st July 2010 to our respected PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Ramvilas Paswan and Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu. Navjot ji is a MP (BJP) from Amritsar which is the land of birth of our beloved Rafi Sahab,therefore requested Sidhu ji to please put our demand in parliament as well as in media. This letter also has been published in the article form in a magazine “Avijit” of lucknow and I am trying to publish in news papers also.

rafi saahab really deserves bharat ratna. if freedom fighters can get award after death, then why not rafi saahab? if lataji can get then why not rafi saahab? he was a better singer than lataji. rafi saahab was not only a gifted singer, but a good person also.it is my request from the bottom of the heary to give him bharat ratna..
He desrves to be called a Bharat Ratna .
Because he was not not only the most popilar singer ever but a singer whose voice was called God’s voice. His songs give bring smile , sukun & tears in eyes of millions of people of this country.
I can say that nobody sang bhajans as he has (like a pandit) though he was a devout muslim,Nobody could sand patriotic songs still remembers his songs which inspired a generation like,”jahan dal Dal par sone ki:, “Ab koi Gulshan na ujde ab watan azad hai”.”Ab tumhare hawale watan saathiyon”. Has any other singer inspired so much. we as youngesters used to sing these songs during 15th August & 26th January, We firmly believe that his songs are our “Dharohar”.we must keep it safely and preserve them for present day generations . therefore if bharat ratna is awarded to him it will give boost to national integration which Mohd rafi believed in . I therefore request with folded hands to respect the feelings of millions Indians whose religion is music and god is Mohd rafi.

As far as the matter of Bharat Ratna giving to Rafi Sahab is concerned, I must only say that ‘RAFI’ is a true Gem, world has bowed to and any Ratna name associated with him will increase the value of that Ratna only.

I have listened to various types of music from everywhere and in the end, I must say that Indian vocalists are the very best on the planet and amongst them, Rafi was a true super star singer and an icon with unmatchable voice quality, range and versatility. His immense contribution to Indian Cinema is undeniable.
Mahatma Gandhi was ignored for Nobel Prize but whole world knows him and recognizes him and Nobel Prize committe is criticized off and on for its notable ommission. Every major newspaper in the world mentioned this when Obama was awarded the peace prize.
AS Gandhi never needed a Nobel prize, so would Rafi doesn’t need a Bharat Ratna award from Govt Of India if authorities don’t want to correct their historical mistake. In fact, Rafi was, is and will remain a true Bharat Ratna amongst the masses in India as well as elsewhere for the Hindi music listeners.

Mohamad Rafi Saab should have been given “BHARAT RATNA” purely on his singing merits though he was very simple & modest. He was sweet, melodious, & versatile. His “Golden Voice” gone well with Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor. But he was certainly a natural voice of Jeetendra & Dharmendra. Rafi Saab’s voice even suited Rajesh Khanna even though “Kaka” paired well with Kishor Kumar.

You have done a great job by appealing the higher authorities to do the needful.What all we could do ,have been done from our side.Lets see whether these people too have the same kind of respect and honour as well as love we had for RAFI SAHAB.Each of his song has penetrated into the souls of millions and at times we ran short of words for and how he sang.I wish everybody feels the same and give him the due credit of being BHARAT RATNA which he could not get during his lifetime.

but here is our “great” singer mohd rafi – a paragon of humility, virtues and patrio-tism being given step-motherly treatment by successive govts. infact mohd rafi should have been given the “bharat ratna” award – first. then other singers.
way back in 1948 – mohd rafi had been honoured by prime minister pandit jawaharlal nehru. nothing after words.
today, even a sheriff who can buy the post gets a padma shri award.
even a baring – cabaret dancer got a padma shri award. an actor who has cases registered upon him gets the padma shri award. most of these awards have become corrupted.
mohd rafi in his long career of 42 years stood for :
patriotism, nationalism, artistic fervour with honesty and integrity, humanitarianism, secularism, philantrophy of the highest order, good will ambassador of the country – and many things ……
i know that millions of our contrymen value all these and love mohd rafi.

It would be such an honor especially on Rafi’s 30th death anniversary to receive this long awaited award. The question is why this award has not been given to Rafi sahab yet? especially after all the support which has been given over the years? There has been no singer like Rafi to date and there has been no gifted voice to match Rafi to date! A kind hearted, simple humble human being who did so much for humanity and for his nation should be honored this award as there will never be anyone like him again!!!
I personally think Rafi sahab has not been given his due respect and rememberence as it should be in the media spotlight compared to other individuals but it is without doubt Rafi sahab has the greatest following & respect amongst his fans than any other singer! I cannot believe it will be 30yrs on July 31st since he passed away! Rafi sahab is not with us but his voice is and will be for ever!
I hope the Indian government will wake up and honor this great human being!

Congrats to this duo for this befitting campaign. No award is ever higher than the person-its just a gesture to acknowledge the greatness of a person in conferring an award. If rafi sahab is an ideal role model for the entire nation, a great source of inspiration to generations, an entertainer out of this world in his soulful renditions, a guiding light to crores, an xlnt human being who has helped the needy in his own silent way without any expectations across the society-all sort of people, an always supportive colleague to the music fraternity etc etc, then what is the govt waiting for? what has it been waiting for all these years? Bharat Ratna, Vishwa Ratna are all symbolic to this great personality. At least these awards can be bestowed on rafi sahab as a token from this grateful nation & the world. Once again- ahumble request to all rafians-pl vote for rafi sahab & inspire your friends, family members, colleagues, neighbours etc to vote, preferably every hour! I wish to see rafi sahab getting a record # of votes every day, every hour, much more than any artist/personality in the entire world, day in & day out. At least that is in our hands & control!! The votes per day has jumped from a measly 100 odd to more than 230 these days!! But the others are catching up & the gap vis a vis the top 8 is very large which can melt in a few days if we rafians take this matter seriously. Lets give it a solid push all across the nation & the world.
Dear Rafians,
We all being Rafi Saab fans wish “ Bharat Ratna” (India’s highest Civilian Award) would confer to our beloved singer for which he deserve it aptly. Bharat Ratna is not an ordinary award, so it will come so easy to anyone who wish for it. It is a rigorous job and hardway either to get such a commendable award that awarded for the highest degrees of national service as well as recognition of public service of the highest order. We Rafians come under the category of “ Common People” or we may not have the accessibility to reach up to the proper channels that lead to the correct personnel. This kind of job must be hand over to those influential leaders who dare to put before the Award committee. Then it is the discretion of the Award Committee whom they select for such an award. So far 41 recipients had received this prestigious award, if 42 Bharat Ratna award would be awarded to Mohd. Rafi Saab, the Rafians will be the most happiest persons on the face of the Earth.
I strongly wish and pray to the Almighty, this time Rafi Saab shall be declared as Bharat Ratna. –Amen —

Both Mr.Sanjeev and Mr.Gurbeer deserve kudos for their efforts !.
I would request them to kindly upload an English translation of the paper news which is in Devnagari/Hindi, for the benefit of the readers and Rafi Sahab’s admirers and followers down south even though many are conversant with the languages of north !. It would be an added advantage to generate mass public opinion to confer Bharat Ratna to Rafi Sahab.

thanks for this movement of demanding the honour for Rafi sahab,
I would like to dedicate all of u once again , the song of kishore kumar That Rafi sahab sang for me(when I was 9 year old) in a way that can never be imagined for he poured his divinity in it in the form of blessings. and everyone can understand that no one can imagine how could have the song sung for money as priority by other singer would have sounded in devoted voice of our Farista,Rafi in the form of Prayers!
The first line he sang in Humming, and next line was, “hmmmmmm…. usi raah pe raahi chalte jaana……”,then what he told next,his words I repeat that our love lead us to God,and we should have faith in God above all.So, plz never worry politics, fair or unfair. Lets know always that we r doing our work as the country is not of politician only but of eternal past, present and future of the Nation. And person like Rafi sahab r the one`s who r real representative of the Ancient India(whole sub-continet) and also of modern India.
Living art of singing like prayer, doing job as singer like worship with adherence of his work to God and listeners while,living daily life as the humblest Human,ignoring all the selfishness ,jealousy and materialism– Rafi sahab is the real role model that any truthful society can ever dream of.
If people of other critics camp don`t like Rafian saying their master as farista, I would like to tell them. Farista on earth in human body r someone who is human in real sense.
Rafi sahab was human in real sense, as its in his song of Baiju Bawra, “Inshan bano…” his voice still spreading love in all of us and inspiring us on other aspect of life too. what else should we look in, to term a person the real Gem or a Ratna, or Bharat Ratna.
lets Keep on loving Rafi sahab as he is one of the finest creation of modern world, ~taarif kar`un kya uski jisne tumhe banaya..~…..
To such a person and Artist like Rafi sahab, awards holds no importance as he himself is a God`s award to us.
However, lets do our work with complete dedication even if we know that awards hold no importance to Rafi sahab,his family,fans or devotees. Though every raaga of Rafi sahab is much bigger than any awards whatsoever, if we win this award for him, It would be small tribute by we Rafians to our master,our friend and our Farista,Rafi sahab who has filled our life with so much love that we never feel we r alone at any step of our life.
This song is my fav and I feel this song irrespective of film`s context, fits best with the personality of Rafi sahab,himself. I feel asif God has made Rafi sahab sing this song for Rafi sahab himself.The following line in memory of Rafi sahab, chandan is symbolic of awards posthumously,the phool or flower I feel as the microphone blow his neck as he always say all his voice filled in love is for the listeners,

Such a great person like rafi sahab, if not given bharat ratna, then god will conquer the world. Great work sanjeev ji & gurbeer ji. this is a very serious issue which should be raised in the parliament. he is not only a genious singer or a good person he is a professor who has taught all the people of the world how to respect our motherland, elders, etc..when some one critcises rafi sahab without speaking a word he suppresses that person with his tansen voice, madur aawaz.
so surely rafi sahab not only deserves bharat ratna but also deserves vishva ratna. government should understand the importance of rafi sahab in this world and should honour the bharat ratna to rafi sahab.
Dear SK & GS, Excellent way of paying our Tributes to the Immortal Rafi Sahab.. all of us need to participate and prepare for such program – where in fact, the govt. of India seems to either be sleeping or pretending to be so, on the issue.

Many months ago, you had both thought of doing this great and noble work and slowly you managed to prepare the texts of the letters and also explored all the addresses of the powers that be.
