In the later years of his career Ravi joined the B R Chopra camp and gave evergreen hits. He was also instrumental in introducing Rafi Saabs disciple Mahendra Kapoor in the classic film Gumrah. He was associated with the B R Chopra camp for several years & in the vicinity composed music for almost all their films.

rafi saab was alive.it is one of the luckiest thing in our life.
From Saigal to Sonu Nigam (except Rafi saab) and from Nurjahan to Sreya Ghosal, all had/have god gifted voice, but Rafi saab’s voice was God’s own voice. A singer like Rafi saab comes once in 1000 years and we are very lucky that we have got him in our life time.

to post 12 .the role was acted by bagwan ,the details of it is forgotten because 35 years passed after that,, congradulation to raviji who had performed the music,ofcourse ravi had fully utilised the abilities of rafi in all aspects.he had given sad songs (babul ki dua..filim neel kamal)qawali (miltehi nazer ..filim ustdom ki’ ustad) gazal (title song of chaud winka chand) classic songs in the filim kajal and happy songs like neel gagan per udthe filim qandhan.

i admit too that this song mai kaise aaja bbeebi..very sarcastic & humorous one.please mention me who had acted that part in the filim dever babi ., is it joney walker? to none other than rafi sab had sung that typical song such a superb way.

THE DEPTHS OF DESPAIR AND THE DRUNKEN STUPOR IN WHICH THE SONG IS SUNG IS A MARVEL OF VOICE CONTROL AND FEELINGS.
THERE IS A SPECIAL GRAINY TEXTURE TO THE VOICE IN THIS SONG WHICH MAKES IT SOUND LIKE RAAJ KUMAR HIMSELF SINGING.

have heard the comic song in the filim dever babi? i had heard this from radio ceylon while’ it was functioning clearly. now i donot know exactly the lines. it is some what like mai kaise aaja beebeere ..theri yadmai hogai teebee..rafi sab sung it at the age of 25 or 30 in the voice of an old man of 70. i often wonder why our vivid bharaathi or tv station not played this song.
A Nice Article Bijoor ji,Also one more song (a duet with Lata that I would like to add is the one from Hare kaanch ki chudiyan – Ek mahal ho sapno ka). Also the title song of ‘Aankhein’.It is one of the toughest songs composed IMHO.
Sukhjit Singh Makkar sahib what a song you have mentioned ‘ KOI MUJSE POOCHE KE TUM MERE KYA HO’ .The first time I heard this song I was just mesmerised by Rafisaab’s rendition.How can one apply so much feel to the song is the question that arises on listening to it and goodness has it that we have 2 versions.One is the romantic and the other one that has hatred and Rafisaabs mastery over the renditions cannot be described in words.

I, 100% agree with you. This combo of Rafi and ravi is marvelous. Is gane me Rafi Sahab ki “Gayeki” bade ghazab ki hai. After all he is the “Awaz ka Badshah”.

one of Rafi Saab’s greatest ever renderings is from Yeh raaste Hain Pyar KE and the song is _ KOI MUJSE POOCHE KE TUM MERE KYA HO-.
It is a song which captures all the facets of a relationship – from the first loving caress of soft love, to the passion and then when it reaches the betrayel of love it leaves a burning arrow through your soul and wrenches you and shakes you with – KOI MUJSE POOCHE KE TU MERE KYA HO, WAFAA JISNE LOOTI WOH BEFAWA HO – TUM BEWAFA HO . THE CRESCENDO JUST KILLS YOU.
Hear it and you would be shocked into disbelief at its greatness.

This is a good article, but I do not understand why stalwarts like B R Chopra and Yash Chopra did not have Rafi songs in their movies.
Ravi was the best who used Mahendra Kapoor as I think and he was almost Mohd Rafi fan,once on TV Ravi said when ever there is marriage they play my songs and that is my good luck that these songs sung by Mohd rafi.

The greatest quality about Ravi is his similicity, which is follows till date. He always composed quality music maximum in the 1960s. As music standards started falling down in 70s and 80s there were very few exceptions composed by Ravi. The Ravi-Rafi combo have composed landmark musical hits.
Surprisingly, don;t see the Waqt title song” waqt se din aur raat”.. Reportedly, Ravi underwent a dispute with B R Chopra to make Rafisaab sing this song.. This is a true gem..
