मेरी नज़र में रफ़ी साहब उस चाँद की तरह है जिसकी मुक़द्दस रौशनी रहती दुनिया तक बकरार रहने वाली है, उस चाँद में एक कशिश है.जो भी उसकी ओर देखता है उसका ही हो जाता है सदा के लिए. जिसकी शीतल छाया में तपती धुप से जलते हुए तन-मन को आराम मिलता है , जिसकी रौशनी भूले -भटके लोगों को रास्ता भी दिखाती है , वोह रौशनी जो हर अँधेरे को दूर भगाती है. यह चाँद है अपनी सम्पूर्ण आभा को समेटे हुए ,एक युवा और जिंदादिल जिंदगी का मयार .
मेरे कहने का मतलब यह है की में अपने प्यारे अज़ीमगुलुकार को एक सर्वगुण-संपन शख्सियत मानती हूँ. कोई है उनके जैसा ! बिलकुल नहीं. आमतोर पर देखा जाता है की जो इंसान अगर एक कामयाब और मशहूर हस्ती होगा तो ज़रूरी नहीं वोह एक अच्छा इंसान भी हो . उसके जीवन की सच्चाई तो कुछ ओर ही बयाँ करती है . मगर रफ़ी साहब वोह चाँद है जिसके मुखमंडल में , उनके दामन में एक भी दाग नहीं, पुरे मानवीय गुणों से भरपूर ,उनको एक आदर्श मनुष्य कहा जा सकता है, इन्ही गुणों की चमक उनके मुखमंडल और रोशन करती है .

रफ़ी साहब की आवाज़ और उनका अंदाज़ ,सुभानाल्लाह ! वोह जब रागनी छेड़ते हैं खुद तो मदहोश होते है ही मगर अपने साथ अपने चाहने वालों को भी एक दूसरी दुनिया में ले जाते हैं. जहाँ कोई गम नहीं बस खुशियाँ ही खुशियाँ होती हैं. उनकी आवाज़ की क्या विशेषता बतायुं में आपको ; कभी तो नदी सी चचल, आसमान से भी ऊँची,पताल सी गहरी, शराब सी नशीली, सपनो सी सपनीली, चाँद सी उज्वल ,जल सी शीतल,निर्मल, फूल सी कोमल , सागर की लहरों सी बलखाती कभी , और कभी सरल रेखा सी सीधी. इसीलिए तो वोह संगीत की हर विधा ( ग़ज़ल,कवाली, शास्त्रीय संगीत,सुगम संगीत,ठुमरी,दादरा, रोमांटिक, गमगीन ,युवा-जोश, बचपन से नटखट आदि) से होकर गुज़रती थी ,शहद में डूबी हुई . एक मिठास ,परिपक्वता लिए हुए पाकीज़ा आवाज़. क्या इतनी खूबिया और कहीं मिलेगी? कभी नहीं .
वोह इतने ऊँचे इंसान हैं ,की इस ज़माने का हर ऊँचे से ऊँचा सम्मान उनके आगे छोटा है,तुच्छ है .वोह इतने महँ हैं और रहेंगे के कयामत तक उनके क़दमों के निशान हर नए कलाकार को नयी रह दिखायेंगे, उनके आवाज़ इस कायनात के कोने-कोने में सदा गूंजती रहेगी,और गूंजता रहेगा यह प्यारा सा नाम ; मोहम्मद रफ़ी ,मोहम्मद रफ़ी ,मोहम्मद रफ़ी.
हम सब की रूहें जब भी सदा देंगी तो बढकर थाम लेगी उनके अज़ीम रूह.

I never really thought much of filmfare particular when at the 1981 filmfare awards where Rafi Sahab had 3 nominations against Kishore da’s 2 nominations. Rafi sahab should have deserved in the winning the award for any of those 3 great songs nominated as it would have further been an honour to his sudden passing several months earlier. As for putting Rafi sahab at 3rd position is beyond a joke !!! I think Sonu himself would be as surprised as we are!
Why can’t this stupid politically correct media just admit Rafi’s supreme popularity as the number 1 singer all of times !!!!!!!
It seems that Rafi sahab seems to be a taboo subject in the media spotlight at times when it comes to over praising other artists over Rafi sahab.

Sir I have been reading all the comments all of us are hurt, But RTI or writing a letter wont do any thing we can achieve our goal only if we act in unison. I have already written our unity is our strength if all of us write one letter daily asking times of India to express its regret over its mistake.
we have very good writers who can blast the claims made by the Film fare and if it doesn’t print those letters in its columns let us start doing this make our own presentation in support of our claim and put it on You tube or other forums like Hindustan times (both are bitter enemies) to blast Film fare. we have very good professionals and writers who can make film fare to accept its mistake. we have to fight it thru media only if we have to make film fare feel the heat. Rafi saheb has immense support in every nook and corner of this country and no one should take it for granted that anyone can write anything.

the times of india the parent publication had on august 15, printed a story on 60 personalities who shaped our post freedom era and illuminated it.
one prominent name with a big picture and a story on it was of – the emperor of singing – mohammad rafi saaheb.
no other film personality was listed. let me tell friends that the first time pandit nehru cried over a song was when he heard mohd rafi singing in 1948 : suno suno aye duniya waalon bapuji ki amar kahani on the assassination of mahatma gandhi.
overnight this song was recorded and made history with the song playing in every indian home on their radio sets.
please send a copy of times of india to mr jitesh pillai editor of filmfare – to educate him on some music aspects which he sadly misses.

rajesh ranga ji.. I indeed read your letter in that wretched film fare magazine. it was sent by a friend from delhi who was elated that mohd rafi is the divine singer.
but, it was a very short article may be written by one of those youngster journo like jitesh pillai – who may be competent in taking ‘cut & paste stories’ from here and there and publishing them as articles.
Please take the cuttings of some of these comments and post them to jitesh pillai with a strong protest and ask him – how a divine and popular singer like mohd rafi could be placed third behind sonu nigam.
mr jitesh pillai must keep his personal tastes , likes and opinions for his own book which he will write one day – once he is out from filmfare.
actually, the filmfare is dying and its time someone write a epitaph about it too at the soonest.
These media bufoons embarassed Kishore da when he was alive and continue to do so after he has left us.
Kishore was happy not be a part of this kind of nonsense. When Mana Dey, Talat, Mukesh, Mahendra Kapoor and Hemant da were all proud to say that Rafi was the hallmark of singing then these kind of corrupt articles are meaningless and Rafi fans must not give such articles such oxygen.

Through these august forum, I appeal to Filmfare to find any other way to increase its sales figures than to malign the noble name of Rafi saab. Few suggestions to them: they can increase the quota of filmi gossips like who is seeing whom, who slept with whom etc.
Rafi saab was adjudged the singer of the mallenium. While selecting 20 best songs in 60-70 years of film music (by an eminent jury) as many as 7-8 songs were by Rafi saab. Around 15th Aug. 2007, Hindustan Times published the list of prominent Indians who influenced our lives in the last 60 years (of Independence), and in that list there was only one male playback singer (Mohd. Rafi).
It is obvious that this creature Jitesh Pillai (editor of Filmfare) is either ignorant or arrogant or both. Or may be that the article in question (which has placed Rafi saab at No. 3 position) is a sponsored/ paid item. And we all know who is/ are behind this garbage.

then i read the editorial. the editor is a youngster for whom dil waale dulhaniya le ………..is the best movie of the times. i studied his interest. there is nothing to show that he likes golden era classics.
filmfare once tried to increase its readership by writing falsehood about rafi saaheb. for, three months the debate continued and filmfare had some growth it seems.
it has dipped now and may be one more valiant effort on its part to gain some ‘lost glory’

Bhagchandani ji I have also heard or read somewhere Sonu saying that when he joined industry it was taboo to talk about Rafi saheb. But Sonu is a great fan of Rafi saheb he is an established singer now should not worry and disclose the facts as all of us want to know who are these people why they were doing like that. Why such a great singer who given so much to the industry was being treated like this . We are really saddened and want to know who was behind all this and sonu can throw the light on this.
I have seen sonu when he was just 15 years old singing “Madhuban mein Radhika Nache Re” in a concert . He informed the audience that Rafi saheb is his guru and this fact he has not forgotten even today. The proof is the recent program I saw on TV XFactor where he, Shreya and Sanjay leela Bhansali were judges and on 31st July he dedicated the program to Rafi saheb saying that Rafi saheb is the Mahaguru of our Sangeet . All of us really urge Sonu to come out and expose these frauds .

100% correct info you have provided us and we all know who that singer is. There are also instances when other singers when singing duets with Rafi Sahab when singing with the King.
There are also other instances when duet singers have forced the MD’s influenced by them to not select Rafi sahab for a song for vague and baseless reasons. One such reason was that this song is too small for a singer of his calibre and this mischievous mind set resulted in Rafi Sahab giving lesser number of songs in 70’s compared to 50’s and 60’s.
Also some duet singers used to increase their fee 2some in Rafi Sahab was the other co-singer to avoid singing with him for they knew they would be outclassed. The list of such sabotage are many and mother of all was the corrupt and staged binaca geet mala.

it is a sad commentary of the times that some singers play big time politics to remain in the public domain. they undermined good singers during their prime time and played all the games in the book – to checkmate rising talents.

The write ups reflect the true feelings for Rafi Saab. Rafi Saab truly deserved the Bharat Ratna during his life time. It is unfortunate that the film industry did not take up this cause sincerely except paying lip sympathy. For a pious soul like him no award will be big enough. The repertoire of his songs is truly awesome. A dynamite of talent. His voice is flawless, melodious and mellifluous.

it is surprising to note that though these 2 singing sisters lata & asha do not know anything about cricket, yet they are lobbying for the ‘cricketer’ for bharat ratna & they have tactfully avoided proposing the name of singer rafi saheb for b.r. with whom they have sung as many as 446 & 903 songs respectively. this is an example of politics played on the basis of region.
for more than fifty years, bharat ratna was ‘not’ given to lata mangeshkar.
everyone knows that for awards, you have to do lots of politicking….. the politicians helped her in getting the award in late nineties.
mohd rafi never went for any awards – is the true story and never went for cheap publicity………..
like many so called ratnas. and thats why rafi endears to many hearts.

I know the industry inside out. as usual there were some great honest people there.
mohd rafi saaheb leaded them and he never was a politician. if he ‘was’ then the situation would have been different.
i have seen very closely people talking ill of mohd rafi saaheb. the reasons were that they could not come up to the standards of rafi saaheb in singing.
one singer used to absent from rafi duet recordings and used dummies for duets – solely because of lack of confidence in singing with the legend.
many times, producers were told to drop rafi saaheb by this singer. but, this did not happen many times. this group came a full circle led by the female singers and made some hay during the seventies.
but, today we see that just like the tide, mohd rafi songs cannot be stopped.
so many stories abound friends.

I had earlier too written on this Forum to express my sincere feelings for The Voice —– Mohammed Rafi —– but it went unnoticed; however this will not dampen my unflinching love for this noble soul called Mohammed Rafi.
I saw a few letters on this Forum talking about Bharat Ratna to be awarded to The Voice and I could not help myself from writing my heart – felt feelings once again.
Denying accolades & honours, and acknowledging true talent is not something new for the Indian Mind and their thought process.
Rabindranath Tagore wrote exquisite poetry in Bengali and yet he went unnoticed in his own country. However, the Swedish Academy of Letters saw the beauty inherent in the Verses and they awarded the Noble Prize for Literature forthwith to his literary masterpiece Gitanjali in 1913!
Then years later, Dr. Hargobind Khurana made some extremely valuable research in his chosen field of Medicine specifically in the field of DNA and he brought to the notice of people concerned but none gave a listening ear to him. He fell a victim to the usual Indian mind – set, red – tapism and bureaucracy and heart – broken, he left India and went to the U.S. The Scientific brotherhood saw his amazing work in the field of DNA and he was immediately awarded the Noble Prize for Medicine for his pioneering work in the field of DNA in 1968!
So it is for every sane person to see how disgusting the mind – set is of the people here who decide in their own perverted ways, who is to be eulogized, who is to honoured, and who is to be discarded and shunned!
Lata Mangeshkar suggests that Amitabh Bachchan should be given the Bharat Ratna for his acting(?) while she very cleanly forgets her “adopted brother” Dilip Kumar the greatest actor to bless the Indian Screen!
Why & how shall she propose the name of Mohammed Rafi for the Bharat Ratna award when with all her cunningness and shrewd calculating mind, she had fought this noble soul Mohammed Rafi over the question of sharing the Royalty Money from the Producers?!
It is indeed a matter of shame on the people who decide Bharat Ratna recipients every year and who have knowingly neglected The Voice —– Mohammed Rafi —– all these years while awarding this honour to every other nincompoop, worthless person ….. (ofcourse there are some genuine exceptions)!
Strange, that Sachin Tendulkar is now being suggested for Bharat Ratna for having scored 100 centuries in the game of Cricket! His century will not soothe a troubled soul, a sad heart and melancholy individual but verily, Rafi’s soulful numbers will come to his lips and he will sing, croon and hum to humself and will truly uplifted in his spirits! Such is the magical effect of Mohammed Rafi!!!
And remember Dr. Ishwari Prasad who wrote the book History of India and who came on to the stage and refused to take the award he was given by the authorities for reasons which are too obvious and which I do not wish to write here. It was again a case of trampled mind of the authorities working at its usual best!
I shall always pour my heart out whenever the question of Bharat Ratna will come up for discussion whether on this Forum, in friendly circle, wherever.

When living and 32 years after death Rafi Sahib is entertaining millions and will do it as long as there is music in this world. What the hell these so called bharat ratna winning mortals done to us. Binu Nair ji and Jayesh are very right and fair, for questioning why the Bharat Ratna is not conferred on
the divine Mohammed Rafi saab. Rafi saab apart from his genius in playback singing was a gem of a person
who cared for others feelings. He never took credit for his singing achievements, whenever anyone praised him
for his singing, he would never take the credit, instead he would put his finger to the sky. Stating it is all
god’s grace.
Rafisaab is the epitome of playback singing. No singer in our country has the same popularity and fan-following which
our beloved Mohammed Rafi saab. Tears started trickling my eyes, when i saw the video of Rafi saab’s funeral

the govt. & the political leaders should be asked to clarify the following:
1. on what grounds bharat ratna has not been conferred to a complete playback singer rafi saheb?
2. on what grounds it has been conferred to the female singer having certain limitations in playback singing?
mohd rafi saaheb is bharat ka ratna………….although the govt and political leaders are trying to find ‘inferior ratnas’ – to serve their selfish ends and name them Bharat ratna.
Politicians should be ‘barred’ from giving any national honours as the credibility of politicians is at the lowest at this point in time.
imagine charan singh, chandrasekhar getting the bharat ratna….. here i am not talking about freedom fighter chandrasekhar azad or bhagat singh but former prime ministers – whose dream was to sit on the chair of pm for atleast a day.
its ‘only’ mohd rafi saaheb who cheer millions of people by his ‘evergreen and robust songs’ day after day.
that’s a welcome relief to our ‘aam janta’ .
