    Caution : dear rafi lovers:

Mr. N.P. Abu today called me up and informed me that he is
the sole owner of the sole documentary on legend mohd rafi and
its in circulation which is illegal.
I am advised by me. abu that he is the sole copyright owner of the
    documentary with censor certification rights.
If anyone markets this video in any form for gains then he would
    face legal consequences..

I advise rafi lovers not to “market” illegal software not “belonging”
to them : in any way.
Please do not tarnish the name of the legend and copyright owners
who have invested time and money for the rights.
I also request our website to check the credentials of things being
    marketed in the website.

Journalist Vinod Viplav has published an article in “THE HINDU” and said
that somethings just refuse to go out of fashion. This is 100 percent right
in the case of legendary vocalist Rafi Saab. Time will change..people will
    change..thinkings will change..theories will change..technology will change
…music will change…but the magic of Rafi Saab’s miraculous voice will
never change and it will bewitch the coming generations for centuries and
    centuries..

  5. P. Haldar says:

Rafi saab perhaps foresaw what would happen in the 70s and that’s why he sang: “matlab nikal gaya hai to pahchaante nahi, yu ja rahe hain jaise hamein jaante nahi”. The man for whom he worked wonders, for whom he created the debonair image on screen, would forget him in a jiffy. Rafi saab had to wait for 10 years to sing his last song for the star. Here is the song; listen to how he articulates “mishri” around 1:03 min. Even after those 10 long years, he never forgot to create that special effect for the star.
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=ASorbEdsDEw

This star is the No. 1 ingrate in my book (no offence to his fans). I can’t believe that he has to be prodded to mention rafi saab’s name. Only a musically deaf person would behave like that. It is an open question if rafi saab sang better songs for any other actor. Look at the comments made by Rajendra Kumar, Shammi Kapoor and Dharmendra; they overflow with praise for Rafi saab.

Anyway, here’s where Rafi saab’s innings with navketan began (nau do gyarah, circa 1957):
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=VlSmTKTeUUQ

Here’s where the star’s popularity reached dizzying heights (kala bazaar):
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=XeCh08II2Cc

Here’s where he got his life’s motto (hum dono):
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=PCBSaUPZmGc

Here’s where he reached his romantic best (tgks):
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=LOB2q2wO62I

Here’s where rafi saab told him for the nth time that he was the best playback for him, no matter whom he might prefer (guide):
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=xJuK5K0zCa0

Here’s where rafi saab’s innings with navketan ended (gambler, 1971):
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=gdKASL7zfiY

Sorry if I overreacted. I value loyalty and gratitude and that’s why I like Naushad, OP, Dharmendra, Ravi, Shammi Kapoor, Madan Mohan, Nasir Hussain and other people like them.

The No. 2 ingrate in my book is a producer-director whom Rafi saab sent to so many places: Howrah Bridge, Chinatown, Dal Lake, Eiffel Tower… but who forgot his golden goose after just one hit film. Of course, when Rafi saab made his comeback, this person immediately signed him for one of his films.

  10. mohanflora says:

“Logon ka dil agar haan jeetna tumko hai to meetha meetha bolo”- thus sang Rafisaab for Devanand in the 1980 film Man Pasand. Even though KK sang for Dev in all of the 70’s where a song had to express melody, mithas and joyful feeling it was only Rafisaab who could bring out those expressions. The song was a big hit then and still makes for some great listening after 27 years! Even Devanand must have known this, else why the switch to Rafisaab all of a sudden!

  11. unknow1 says:

really i don’t understant why people compare mohd Rafi with KK!!!!!!!!!!boz it is like SUN light and moon light easy to know.I think from best 100 songs singed for Dev anand there will be not less than 75 songs singed by Mohd Rafi if we speak about best ten songs I think all songs singed by Mohd Rafi…actors who used KK mostly they had there best songs singed by Mohd Rafi…offourse KK was a good singer but we can’t compare kk songs singed for Dev to Mohd Rafi songs, why we compare Dev songs I think we can;t compare songed singed by Mohd Rafi for Rajesh khanna with KK songs….

  12. parveen says:

    dear fans
songs like tere mere sapne need base in the voice and sd found noway to choose mrafi.that was need of hour.amazingly,he gave dev something extra.

  14. Raajkumar Akela says:

Dear Mr. Harvinder and Mr. Ramchandran !
You are very much right. Though Dev Saab always favoured Kishor Kumar
but it seems to me that he was always more handsome and more vivid when
he used Rafi Saab’s golden voice in his movies. Need not to give examples to prove it. India knows it since last three generations.

  15. P. Haldar says:

    ref post 33:

Kishore came back to sing for dev in teen deviyaan (before Guide) after a gap of 6-7 years. I’ve read most of the comments on this thread and I know some of you will not like what I’ll have to say, but here’s my take on the whole thing. Dev was never fascinated by Rafi; it was SD who was fascinated by Rafi. And Dev’s younger brother, Goldie, who had much to do with his success, may have had a strong liking for Rafi. I’ve read reports that it was Goldie who coaxed Dada to bring Rafi to the Navketan camp. What SD and Rafi did for Dev’s career is mind-boggling; that his career took a nosedive after he dumped both of them (and Goldie) is no accident.

  16. K.S. Ramachandran says:

In my opinion (well I want to assure that I am in no way baised when I say this) Rafi’s voice was best suited for Dev Anand as against and much more than Kishore Kumar. Who else other than Rafi Sahab can sing the heart out of Dev Anands inimitable style especially in songs like Eise To Na Deko (Teen Devian), Cheda Mere Dilke Tarana Tere Pyaarka (Asli Naqi), Din Dal Jaye (Guide), Tere Mere Sapne (Guide), Tasveer Tere Dilme (Maya with Lata), Dil Pukare (Jewel Thief with Lata), Kabhi Khudh Pe (Hum Dono), Yeh Zindagi Ka (Hum Dono), Hum Bekhudi Me Tum ( Kala Paani), Saathi Na Koi Manzil (Kala Bazaar) and a host of others…

  17. Anmol Singh says:

Dev’s patronage with KK can be seen more in the early 50s and entire 70s. In between period was always where Rafi Saab sang the max no of songs. In the late 50s to mid 60s even S D Burman also did not use KK on Dev Anand. It was from Guide on wards S D Burman starts using KK on Dev Anand and gradually starts giving less number of songs to Rafi.

Dev Anand like many other heroes lip-synched in two singers voices
    Kishore & Rafi..
The songs sung by Kishore for dev sahab : are easy songs like gaate
rahe mera dil, but the diffucult, poetic and slow numbers were sung
    by rafi.
rafi saab immortalised the songs like din jal jaaye, tere mere sapne,
kya se kya ho gaya.., Kahin bekhaayal hoke, mujhe choo liya kisine,
    and many others.
s.d.burman always used to say to Kishore Kumar : you can never
sing like rafi…to bring out the best in Kishore Kumar.
dev sahab is celebrating today his 85th birthday and releasing his
autobiography at a five star hotel in andheri.
there is an invitation too and the details will be published here and

A shrine for Mohammad Rafi in Birmingham

    IANS | Wednesday, 26 September , 2007, 11:56

Some critics call Indian singer Mohammad Rafi, a mere ‘qawwal’, while millions revere him as the epitome of romance and solace. Now, a Birmingham-based fan has built a shrine for his idol, who he sees as nothing less than a saint.
Tasawar Bashir, a Birmingham-based artist, has designed a contemporary shrine for Rafi (1924-1980). It is currently on display at the Festival of Xtreme Building, Birmingham. Visitors are encouraged to bring offerings.

Bashir, who designed the relic, said: “There is no doubt in my mind that Rafi is already a saint. However, life moves at a much faster pace in the 21st century and therefore I believe that achieving the status of sainthood should reflect this societal shift.

“I asked myself how I could pay homage and honour Rafi and was struck by the simple solution to make a shrine; a capsule in the middle of a bustling city which compresses time, space and expresses a one-to-one transmission between Rafi’s voice and the listener. It is my intention that the shrine will transcend time and space.”

The shrine has been built from transparent materials to emphasise its accessibility and to encourage people who may not be familiar with Islamic art, or Rafi, to explore the space. The shrine, which is still only a prototype, will eventually be taken to India.

Tasawar added: “The shrine will be affected by the environment, weather and light depending on the time of day, meaning that every visit will be unique.”

In rendevouze interview i have heard dev saheb stating that kishore was always his voice of choice. we all know dev saheb always wanted to be diffrent, even when kishore da was not so popular with other actors pre 1969. listen to rafi songs for dev and you will notice that deboair image was gift of rafi saheb to dev saheb. i have no doubt that dev saheb had the highest regards for rafi saheb’s voice.

  25. Raajkumar Akela says:

Publicly Dev Saab never said that KK is his favourite singer, but everyone knows that since 1947-48 Rafi Saab was the first choice of Dilip Kumar, Mukesh Mathur was the first choice of Rajkapoor and finally Kishor Kumar was the first choice of Dev saab. No place for urgument.

I have read this book. I am sending a book review which i have written for a magazine published from Delhi.

“Meri Awaz Suno” A tribute to legend singer Md. Rafi

Tum mujhe yun bhula na pao ge,
jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere
sang sang tum bhi gun gunao ge ……

The song sung by legend Md. Rafi has became a truth today. It is exactly 27 years since Mohammad Rafi passed away (July 31, 1980), but his voice continues to haunt us even today. After all, he’s left behind a rich legacy — of songs sung by him over 35 years. The melody and music that Mohammad Rafi created and pioneered during 36 long years of his career has withstood the test of time. Rafi’s voice, ranging from the melancholic to the boisterous, was such that it suited every mood and every occasion in films. His is one voice that has been imitated the most: to be called a Rafi clone is actually regarded as a compliment by most newcomers. Yet, no one has been able to recreate the Rafi magic. Perhaps, no one can. At best, each of these singers has been able to imitate just one aspect of his voice. But nobody possesses the versatility that Rafi did.

We all know about the great importance of Rafi sahab and his singing and every one is quite aware by his great impact on Indian music world. He was a singer who had sung thousands of song in different languages and of every raga with a great skill and submerged with best and unique voice.

Today the importance and relevance of Mohammad Rafi is But this is the big thing that he was not a singer only, he was among people who had always thought about the society and reflect his emotions and patriotism, secularism from his songs. This was the thing that he is no more but his magic is on and it will be. People are as curious to know about him as they were in that when Rafi Sahab was flaunting his magic lively.

There is a big thrust in people to know about him, but unfortunately there is nothing more about him we have, and what ever we have is not satisfactory at all because these are not complete, but now the Prominent Hindi writer and Senior Journalist attached with United News of India (UNI) Vinod Viplav decided to satisfy this quest of people and he has written a book by the name of “Meri Awaz Suno” published by “Sachi Prakashan, New Delhi”. This book includes each and every aspects of the life and singing of Rafi Sahab. In this book the author tried to put all information about him and he is very much successful in his attempt. This book shows a pretty keen observation of the author, as he had included every moment of Legend’s life in the book. Seriously, if you want to know Rafi Sahab, then no book is better then this you will get.

This book was released by renownd Hindustani Classical Singer Padamshree Shanno Khurana in a function held on the eve of death anniversay of Mohmmad Rafi ie on 30 th July, 2007.
