Bombay. Famed playback singer, Mohammed Rafi left for Haj pilgrimage accompanied by his wife, his daughter and his brother-in-law (“saala”, his wife’s brother) Zaheer Ahmad. According to “Rafi sahib” this will be the most wonderful voyage of his life (“meree zindg.ee ka yeh sab se shaandaar safar hoga.”)

SHAMSHAD BEGUM ON THE STAGE FOR THE FIRST TIME

Famous female playback singer, Shamshad Begum, who has always been shy about performing on the stage and getting her picture published, finally gave in and performed for the first time in a live show at the Shadmukhanand Hall in Bombay. She presented her popular numbers.

MEENAKUMARI’S POETRY TO BE RECORDED

Bombay. A new recording company is going to start functioning in Bombay. According to Meena Kumari, this company is very desirous of recording a few of her poetic renditions which will later be marketed.

TWO NEW GEMINI RECORDINGS

Music Director Ravi recorded two songs at Famous Lab (Bombay) for Gemini’s upcoming , yet-to-be-named “color” film. Mohd Rafi and Asha Bhosle sang these songs. The lyrics are by Sahir Ludhianvi.

OBITUARIES

Lyricist Prem Dhawan’s wife Asha passed away on December 28 in Bombay. They were married in 1948. Asha’s original name was Noorjahan and she was a member of “People’s Theater.”

Music Director LaxmiKant’s mother, Mrs. AnandiBai passed away in “Bombay Hospital.” She was 55.

Music Director Hemant Kumar’s father, KaliDas Mukherjee passed away in Calcutta on January 8, 1970. He was 75.
