A love ode to Mohammad Rafi

Mohd Rafi

Mohammad Rafi songs are for all seasons. And to keep it alive, a few fans have formed the Rafi Foundation. Trust in IC Colony, Borivali. The pilot of the project is Binu Nair, an ex-NRI, who now devotes his time to run the trust. On December 7, a full house of music lovers were treated to some exquisite Rafi tracks at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Auditorium under the title Romantic Rafi.

The event will be held on Saturday, February 15, as well with great singers from the city.

A visit to Rafi’s final resting place at Santa Cruz on July 31, his death anniversary, spurred Nair to form this trust. “Music, melody and Mohammad Rafi beg to be said in the same breath. Apart from the legion of Rafi lovers, I wanted the younger generation to hear the golden era songs,” says Nair.

Rafi Foundation Trust will donate wheel chairs to the physically challenged through the Fellowship of Physically Handicapped at Haji Ali.

Don Bradman played less cricket than Sachin Tendukar. But cricket world considers Don as the Greatest. Rafi saheb’s demise was too early in the younger age. Why don’t the govt of India award Dada Saheb Phalke and Bharat Ratna awards posthumously to this Legend. It is terrible digrace to this Great Nation.

    Dear Sir,

I dont have words for Great Rafi Sahab, whenever i sit to sing Mana Tarpat i feel it very Tough several times i performed, but whenever i listen Rafi Sahab singing i sing with him which makes me very comfort & easy, a great singer god gifted voice, i could not touch even to his feet also, whenever i listen his song my eyes fill with Tears & it flows, if i am alone listening his song i become very Touchy, i dont know this is his spiritual voice.

Yes Binuji, who can believe that it’s been 34 years since the great man’s death and yet not a day goes by when I don’t hear his songs and yet they sound so fresh. If I’m listening to the radio I am oblivious to nearly all the songs playing in the background by other artists until that is a song of Mohd Rafi is played and then all of a sudden no matter what I’m doing it gets my full attention.

Mohd Rafi has played such a big part in my life, he’s the one person I know I can turn to in my troubled times as there is absolutely no one who can lift your mood like a Mohd Rafi song can. His songs have been very therapeutic to me and continue to be so, and that beautiful soothing voice can not ever be matched.

For me this legend of all legends is second only to god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Till such time,Sun,Moon,Eearth and Sky exist in the universe Rafi Saab would be remembered for all times to come. The best singer, truly a noble soul, soft-spoken,kind-hearted and thorouly a gentleman, dont come to this world every now and then.

I wish he should have been with us in the human appearance. I had the opportunity of seeing him and listening his unparallel voice in his live-programme in Delhi.

I salute to him all the time till my life ends because I dont have appropriate words to express his highness.

A real tribute to the great singer of our country. Everybody know that RAFI sahab was a very gentle and humble person. During his life he cared about poor and needy. He had helped many poor families financially for their livelihood. Now it is very great pleasure to note that fans of RAFI sahab have recently established a TRUST in his name to continue these welfare activities for the benefit of needy.
    Wish you all the best.

    Dear Binuji,
    Nice article.congrats.

The following hurting me too much always.I had been to
Rafi Saab’s Rest Place in 1985.At that time there was a
Marble partition for the grave. In recent photos that Marble
Partition is not there.About this recently I have talked with
Shahid Rafi Saab and Miraaj Ahmed Saab (Son-In-Law) of
Rafi Saab.To keep the Divine Grave we should do our
level best. The Fans from Mumbai can do this with the State
Government. If anything happened for The Grave it
will be a big mistake we are doing against the The Great
Son of India and the future generation will not forgive us.

It is really heartening to know about the trust;we owe to the next generation ,so that they don’t loose this immeasurable treasure.I am indeed thankful to providence that my life on earth coincided at least in part with reign of the supreme gana ghandarva of music of this universe;it is indeed difficult to imagine any other human being having such elaborate skill.
