With Rafisaab it was like with every breath ‘sur’ was coming out

By Mr. Ashok Parekh – I read a nice article on our Rafisaab in today’s Mumbai Gujarati Daily ‘Mumbai Samachar’ and have made an attempt to translate as my tribute to Rafisaab on his death anniversary.

31st July is amidst us. It was on this day, Rafisaab left all of us for heavenly abode. Media has started to pay tributes to him. Few days back a Gujarati daily in Mumbai, “Mumbai Samachar” had published an article in which musician Dilip Dholakia has narrated his association and experiences with Rafisaab. While Dilip Dholakia has independently given in few Hindi films in name of D. Dilip, he worked as assistant with Chitragupta and Lakshmikant Pyarelal. Following is my humble attempt for English translation which might not be error free but will definitely provide us all in general and Gujarati fans in particular a new angle of knowing our beloved Rafisaab: (more…)

Hall was jam packed and people were standing outside the hall and enjoyed the beautiful songs of late Rafi.

Mohd RafiMysore, July 18 (VS&MTY)- A musical programme, ‘Pushpanjali’, ‘Geetanjali’ has been organised in memory of renowned singer late Mohammed Rafi at Jaganmohan Palace on July 20 at 6 pm. Renowned singer Raghavendra Ratnakar, son of cine artiste K.M. Ratnakar, who has been organising the musical programme since three years will present the songs sung by Mohammed Rafi. (more…)

In the age of nasal singers, the heart longs to listen to Mohammad Rafi once again. Remembering the superstar singer in the run-up to his anniversary. More than a quarter century ago, the golden voice of Mohammad Rafi fell silent. The gentleman-singer of Hindi filmdom that had ruled the ’50s and ’60s of Hindi movies like an emperor suddenly called it quits, departing for his heavenly ab ode, leaving millions of his fans dejected. For on this day in 1980, Rafi Saab as he was fondly called, left us for ever, succumbing to a massive heart attach at age 56.
