I want to become like Mohammad Rafi
Here is an extract from the article, Efforts of special children brighten up Edu dept.
He is blind by birth and belongs to a family that lives below the poverty line. But that has not deterred him from looking forward to a self sufficient life and seek accolades for his talent. Twelve-year-old Sur Sagar, as his name denotes has some talent for music and is presently part of the bridge course camp being organised under the Education for All programme at Kanpur road in the city.
‘In saalon mein maine dekha hai ki agar kisi se ek rupiya bhi mang lo to woh lanat ke sath deta hai,’’ said Sur and added, ‘‘God has given me a good voice and I can even form lyrics and compose them. With this I want to become like Mohammad Rafi.’’
There are 39 other students like him who are either visually or hearing impaired and have never been to a school. They were brought to this camp after much persuasion. The co-ordinators had to meet up their parents who were hesitant to send them for the camp. However, two and a half months of stay at the residential camp has changed a lot for them and even for the officers of Education department.
More than half-way through the camp, these children show immense possibilities and a promising future.
